This guy seems pretty tasty and can score for a winger. Varela has basically lost his place in the team when the management changed and now he wants out. He can go for 6 Million but that is basically the price of a new striker for us so not sure how realistic this is.
Nelson Oliveira
Position – Striker
Age – 21
Club – Benfica
When I saw the club he played for I thought he must be good because most players that come from Benfica are technically gifted but Allardyce is a stats man so I wonder why he went for this player. Since 2010 he has been loaned out every season and pretty much played the whole of the season for the clubs in question. He has only managed 8 goals in 3 season FFS! Ok he is young but sorry DS is going on about quality and goals well this kid isn’t it.
Shaun Maloney
Position – Midfielder/Attacking Midfielder
Age – 30
Club – Wigan Ath
Maloney was a bright spark in a disappointing season for Wigan. Coming towards the later part of his carrier he obviously doesn’t want to spend it in the Championship, Would he improve our midfield though? Lets be honest he is coming from a relegated team and I’m not so sure he would shine for us like he did for Wigan.

Varela is class, it would be a real coup if we could get him. Maloney had a decent season last year, plus he’s a good dead ball specialist. Oliviera would be a better signing than the others we have been linked with, namely Kalou and Remy. It would be great to get all three, but do we have the finances?
Would be delighted with any of these but particularly Maloney and Varela.
While both are very different players either would offer us something we have lacked in the past couple of years. Varela obviously first choice but if you could get Maloney and Kalou for same price seems a no brainer considering both have proven they can hack it in the Premier League (obviously depending on wages!).
Slightly harsh on oliveira personally would love him at our club his statistics don’t do him justice. He’s big strong and quick plus young would take varela but my preference would be oliveira
we have got to many in the middle we need a new right back no offence obrien you are good but not consistent and that’s for attack ffs Andy Carroll to expensive and why the hell are we paying that kind of wage we could have got two players for that
do not need midfielders this is our problem in recent years that’s why we are up n down our defence is total crap and as for this new stadium we need a really good team if we are to compete at the very top
Sullivans statement on not needing defenders is going to bite him on the arse. Come January they will be scrambling for cover at the back and in January everything is over-priced.
