Hammers could lose Carroll in January

Ba say’s buy

Apparently Liverpool are strongly linked to Demba Ba and are planning on recalling Carroll in January and offering him to Newcastle United plus 7.5million for Demba Ba.

We have first offerings on the player but only in the Summer, if he gets recalled in January we lose our years loan money already paid up (because of clause) and lose our first dibs on the striker.

If I was G&S I’d be searching for a couple of replacements like NOW!

  1. Sigh. If you actually knew what you were talking about you would realise there is zero chance of Carroll going to Newcastle in January as he cannot play for three Premier League clubs in the same season. He will either stay here or go back to Liverpool to play for Liverpool.

  2. The above comment is spot on and way ahead of me. I was going to ask where on earth this information was coming from. The idea that G&S would sign a deal like the one you describe is absurd, ESPECIALLY after the Denba Ba fiasco. So if you are going to put this out there as a “story”, here is my retort. Hugh Southon, a reporter in London, has stated emphatically that his sources in the club say this:

The recall clause was requested by Carroll because at the time he had to make a decision very quickly to agree to the loan or not. It was his safety valve, if you will. But West Ham could activate the purchase option at any time they wish, although doing that before safety was assured would be too risky. So in theory, if Rodgers wanted him back he could recall him BUT we could still activate the purchase option in the summer if we stay up.

With nobody saying what the actual deal is, and Gold saying the deal is confidential, the best we supporters can do is watch and wait. But during that time common sense should prevail. Think of Occam’s Razor. It is a principle stating that among competing hypotheses, the one which makes the fewest assumptions should be selected.

I think Occam would go with Hugh’s.

  3. Ba’s Clause is still only 7.5 million so Liverpool will activate that. And when they get Ba they won’t want Carroll, so he will be all ours 🙂

    • I assume that is the source you used. But it still ignores the rule stating that a player cannot be registered to more than two teams in a season. There is also a rule that only goalkeepers can be recalled from season long loan deals, although perhaps specific clauses allowing them can over-ride that rule. As for Ba, during the summer window it was widely reported that the 7 million pound release clause expired on July 31. So that is another possible hole in the theory.

  4. They can get around that rule if they say it was an emergency loan. I’m sure Nicky Shorey moved to 3 clubs once and FIFA got involved. Got out of it by stating it was an emergency loan (which never was) and is a kind of loophole in the rules.
