Julien Faubert – off to Lazio?

Lazio president Claudio Lotito is ready to offer the 28-year-old a two year deal after he was released by the Hammers

The Frenchman, who can play at right back or ion midfield, began his professional career with Cannes, before moving on to Bordeaux where he earned the nickname “Le TGV” because of his pace.

In 2007 he was close to a switch to Glasgow Rangers before West Ham paid £6.1million to bring him to England on a five year deal.

He suffered a suffered a ruptured achilles tendon in a pre-season freindly against Czech Republic side Sigma Olomouc and was forced to wait six months to make his Hammers debut, eventually playing for the first team against Fulham in January 2008.

He spent six months on loan at Real Madrid in 2009 but the move was not a success and he was used mostly as a substitute – and was even pictured asleep on the bench during a game against Villarreal.

After making just two La Liga appearances for the club he failed to impress sufficiently to earn a permanent switch and returned to West Ham for the 2009/10 season.

His final match for the club was the Championship Play-off final win over Blackpool that sealed the Hamers’ return to the Premier League.

  1. He must have one hell of a agent!!! Promised so much – immense dissapointment at the end of the day. Au revoir……

  2. Would be a good addition for Lazio, but they already got Lulic and Candreva, both are younger and faster than the Frenchman, at the wingers spot.

By the way, nice blog about the Hammers. Di Canio era West Ham is one of my favorite childhood teams alongside Sven-Göran Eriksson’s Lazio.

    • Faubert doesn’t mind sitting on the bench – though he does find it often hard to stay awake – especially when he was at Real Madrid
