I’d first like to say that Reading were poor and deserve to be where they are after an opening goal and then practically holding on for the whole game. But it was a great bit of tactics because they knew one goal would be enough.
We officially now have an inability to score. We are mid season and three of our strikers have managed to score a grand total of 5 goals!
Watching the Arse v Barcodes game last night on MOTD you could see the difference a goal scorer makes. Not only that it hurt to the bone watching Ba calmly tuck two away knowing he once played for us, that also got me thinking that anytime we have had a goal scorer we have been unable to hold on to him!
I still don’t think we will be dragged into a relegation battle but I’m sure the board are now sitting uncomfortably in their seats every game and are rightly waiting until the end of the season before offering Allardyce a new contract, look at the Pardew problem! The moment Pardew signed a 6yr contract Newcastle have been in freefall!
So what do we need in January? Another defender is a must! Maybe two but in January that’s a tall order but an even taller order is our forward line, in my opinion we need two new strikers and Allardyce has to change his formation! The only way we are going to score goals is to play two strikers up front, this lone striker business isn’t working and Allardyce has now come unstuck. If he doesn’t change something he could be out of a job and he knows that!
Also what does he now say to the Board? He talked them into Carroll and it has been a 80k a week disaster! He talked them into Jarvis and he has been a 10million mistake! Now he is going to go back to the board and ask for more millions to sort his own problems out? It’s going to be a case of sell before you buy and I have a feeling trouble could be ahead for Allardyce….
