January target Joe Allen will cost West Ham 2.5million
Avram Grant has targeted Swansea City’s 20-year-old winger Joe Allen as a possible signing in the January transfer window.
According to The Sunday People, the West Ham United manager is reportedly lining up a £2.5 million swoop for the promising youngster, although he will face a fight with Swansea who already have one eye on the Premier League themselves.
The Welsh side are sitting third in the Championship table after an impressive start to the season and Allen has been an influential player, making 14 appearances so far and scoring once.
The story also suggests that Allen could be part of a double Championship swoop by the Hammers, with Queens Park Rangers striker Jamie Mackie their other target.
Mackie is QPR’s top scorer this season, bagging eight goals already, and Grant reportedly wants the striker at Upton Park to fire his West Ham side out of a relegation battle.
It remains to be seen whether new owners David Gold and David Sullivan would stretch to a price tag expected to exceed £3m.
The owners have promised to correct West Ham’s ailing finances but are reportedly prepared to fund a few budget signings in January to keep the club in the Premier League after a poor start to the season has left the Hammers at the foot of the table.
