David Wheater to replace Upson
West Ham United Football Club are lining up a deal for David Wheater.
The 23-year-old defender is out of contract at Middlesbrough in the summer, when he would be available on a free transfer unless new terms are agreed.
New Boro coach Tony Mowbray has made it a priority to arrange a new deal with Wheater, but it is believed the Hammers are lining up an offer to take him in January.
Matthew Upson is in the final twelve months of his contract at Upton Park, and it is looking increasingly likely he will seek one big move before hanging up his boots.
Avram Grant sees Wheater as the ideal replacement for the England international, and will hope to get him for a fee in the region of £3million when the window reopens.
