Ilie Dumitrescu remember him?
Ilie Dumitrescu has resigned from his position as head coach of Romanian side Steaua Bucharest with immediate effect after only six weeks in charge.
The 41-year-old was full of ambition when he started his job in August, but the former Romania international has now opted to throw in the towel because he felt he didn’t get the support he needed.
Steaua were held to a 1-1 draw by Astra Ploiesti last weekend, much to the dismay of fans of the Bucharest side, who expressed their unhappiness by whistling Dumitrescu and the Steaua players.
“I’ve made the decision to step down from my position as head coach. I can’t stay here when I’m clearly not wanted by the fans. I feel like I deserve to be treated better than this by the fans,” Dumitrescu was quoted as saying by Romanian reporters.
Steaua Bucharest, who lost 4-1 to Liverpool in the Europa League last week, currently sit third in the Romanian league table with 15 points from eight games.
