Toons in for Upson (we hope)
Matthew Upson is a reported target for Newcastle United Football Club.
The England international is in the final twelve months of his contract at West Ham United, although the Londoners are in discussions to extend his stay at the club.
“The club have given him an offer, they are in negotiations,” said manager Avram Grant. “The club want him to stay, but it’s a matter of money.”
It is believed that Newcastle are keeping tabs on Upson’s situation, and could swoop for him in the New Year if no new contract has been agreed.
Earlier this summer the 31-year-old was a target for Sunderland, but Steve Bruce decided against progressing with the move when he was quoted £6million for his signature.
Due to his contractual situation, United would hope to take the former Arsenal player for much less, as he could be available for nothing at the end of the season.
