Carlton Cole – update

Striker move on cards

Roy Hodgson is set to step up his efforts to land West Ham striker Carlton Cole but faces a battle with Stoke and Sunderland.

The Hammers are not in a rush to off-load Cole unless they receive the kind of offer, around £15m, that is difficult to turn down, but Liverpool are said to be preparing a £12m bid with £6m up front and a further £6m to follow with add ons.
That may allow Sunderland or Stoke to step in with a bigger up-front offer for the striker who is thought to prefer a move to Anfield if he was to leave Upton Park.
Hodgson needs another striker to partner Fernando Torres and his need has increased following the slow start to the season which has seen them lose their opening two games.
Hammers boss Avram Grant has his own transfer targets and the sale of Cole would generate the money for him to make his own moves in the market.
