First bid in for Upson (I say take it)
After a poor season and not doing himself many favours at this years World Cup an 7million offer from Sunderland is looking quite tasty imo.
God he’s an ugly bastard!
Sunderland have made a £7million offer to West Ham United for England defender Matthew Upson.
The 31-year-old has been heavily criticised for his performance in England’s 4-1 Round of 16 defeat against Germany despite scoring the Three Lions only goal that actually counted.
The Hammers centre-back was blamed for the Germans first two goals from Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski, which put England in a 2-0 hole against their arch-rivals.
Upson has just a year left on his current deal with West Ham and will be a free agent next summer.
However, Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is interested in the defender, who wants to take his time to decide where his future lies after returning from South Africa.
The England defender’s current deal pays him £50,000-a-week and West Ham, who are currently in £90 million debt, want to sell Upson before he becomes a Bosman.
