Birmingham City make official Carlton Cole approach
Blues boss Alex McLeish is thought to have been given significant funds to spend by St Andrews chief Carson Yeung and is keen to sign a striker to boost his attacking options. The Daily Mirror claims that Birmingham are now considering a big-money bid for England striker Cole and have asked West Ham if the 26 year-old is for sale.
West Ham owners David Gold and David Sullivan recently stated that they would be prepared to sell any member of the squad, except for Scott Parker . Birmingham now look set to test their pledge and the Daily Mirror speculates that West Ham would be willing to sell Cole for around £10million.
Cole’s season was disrupted by injuries, but he still managed to score ten goals for the Hammers.
However, any negotiations between West Ham and Birmingham City could be fraught given Brum chief Yeung’s £7m High Court case against City’s former owners and current West Ham supremos David Sullivan and David Gold.
