Fans say Diamond geezer a keeper
Scott Parker was rightly named West Ham United Player of the Year in a gala dinner this week. He has been phenomenal this season.
It’s the second campaign in a row that the midfielder has landed the award – the so-called Hammer of the Year – and followed on from David Sullivan, the club’s co-chairman, calling Parker “Mr West Ham” as he put the rest of the squad up for sale.
But there was an interesting choice as runner-up. It was Alessandro Diamanti, who only arrived at the club last summer but whose agent, Luca Puccinelli – as revealed by Telegraph Sport last week – was called by West Ham’s vice-chairman Karren Brady to be told that the Italian was not good enough, not wanted any more and, indeed, should find a new club. Clearly the West Ham supporters, 30,000 votes were cast, don’t agree.
