Hammers to make bid for Joe Cole in the summer
WHU are set to re-sign Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole on a free transfer this summer.
The England international could leave the Blues in the summer after contract negotiations between the two sides stalled.
Cole wants to earn over £120,000 a week, on par with the salaries of team-mates Nicolas Anelka, Michael Ballack and Michael Essien, but Chelsea does not want to pay that much and the 28-year-old could leave as a result, according to The Mirror.
After moving from West Ham to Chelsea in 2003, Cole admitted that he would like to go back to Upton Park some day.
“I still have great affection for West Ham and I would like to think that I could return there some time in the future.”
With the possibility of getting Cole on a free transfer West Ham would have no problems paying the Englishman’s salary demands.
The Hammers face a fight for Cole this summer as Manchester United, Manchester City, Everton, Tottenham and Liverpool are all reportedly interested in the midfielder.
Yeah I think the stumbling block might be: No European football whatsoever, taking a 50% pay cut, having to play under G&S slagging you off in the press.
I’m sure Joe Cole will sign for us……if he can’t find any other team
