Deal or no deal?

Rangers have reportedly rejected a bid from West Ham United for striker Nikica Jelavic. The Championship side lodged an offer of around £7 million for the Croatian after their initial enquiry. However Rangers have rejected the offer, telling West Ham that the offer did not meet their valuation of the player.

However there are rumblings down south that the reported bid was not true. The Daily Mail’s Head of Sport, Lee Clayton, posted on his twitter account tonight that: “The story about West Ham and Jelavic of Rangers is NOT true, I’m told. No bid. Sam doesn’t value him that highly”.

The future of the striker has been speculated since the summer, with Rangers turning down an offer from Leicester City and then a £9 million bid was allegedly lodged by an unnamed club. A number of clubs have been sniffing around Jelavic again during the January transfer window such as: QPR, Liverpool and West Brom, but only West Ham have reportedly made an offer for the top scorer in the Scottish Premier League so far.

On the link with West Ham, Jelavic said: “West Ham are a great club; they are not a second division club. They are a famous Premier League club who happened to be relegated last season and will return to the Premier League next season. It would be nice to play there if the opportunity comes up and the club agrees.”

Whether the bid is true or not, it looks like West Ham will target other players on their list now, one of those being Salomon Kalou of Chelsea with the Upton Park side looking to get the forward on a loan deal.
